After attending his first stock car race in 1992, commercial real estate developer Scott LaFavre decided to try his hand at the sport. After his first night of competition, which LaFavre calls "the most humiliating experience of my life," he considered walking away from the speedway for good. Not one to give up on a challenge, however, he regrouped and surrounded himself with the best and brightest, and won five feature races in 1994 and 1995. In 1996, LaFavre hung up his helmet and focused on running a full ASA schedule as team owner. The same success that he found at the local level followed on the national circuit. First-class equipment, a bright and dedicated crew, and hard work earned the team ASA Rookie of the Year honors in 1996, followed by the series championship title in 1997. In the year 2000 racing season, LaFavre plans an all-out assualt on the ASA-AC Delco Series. Mike Garvey, the LaFavre Racing Teams driver in ASA and the Busch Grand National Series in 1999, returns. While finishing fourth in the ASA series final standings, Garvey led more than twelve hundred laps over the season. Mike won three out of the last four races and barring mechanical difficulties would have won the series title with ease. Garvey will also again be running a limited Busch Grand National schedule for the team. LaFavre has added another exceptional racing talent to his organization. Kevin Cywinski was the ASA "Rookie of the Year" in 1996 and won the series Championship in 1997. It is the first time in ASA history that a stable of drivers with this amount of talent have been racing for one organization.
